I love seeing all the ASOIAF characters, but it is still competitive and plays out just like a normal civ game.
Best of both worlds! A couple things I thought of you might want to consider adding in the future1) Bravos as a maritime city state (its essentially based on venice, so you can just use that city state for now until BNW)2) Potenitally consider adding some wonders in like the Kings Road, The Wall, or the Harpies of Quarth (or whatever that city was). There are multiple times in the game when I'm doing nothing but churning out units and waiting on something to build. I know having Tywin Lannister building the Harpie wouldn't be accurate, but neither is Washington building the Kremlin in a regular game, and they would add even more of the GOT world into the mod.
This is a great mod, has some slight balance issues but still great promise. Fantastic job on this mod you two.
How long have you been working on it? I knew a team was working on a GoT mod before CiV was even released, and there are a few of them. But I think a lot of modders got frustrated by the lack of options early on in CiV's life and gave up.A GoT mod is something I would like to see filled out so I am glad one is still being actively developed. I started reading the books, but I like the TV show much more than I like the books. For me, GoT is unique in that respect.

I prefer to remain unspoiled and keep my knowledge of the universe to what is in the TV show.Anyway, after starting up the obligatory Stark house game, I quickly abandoned it and made a Dothraki empire. A few observations on a Dothraki start to a Westeros and Essos scenario:. My kingdom for a horse!
Are there that few horses on Essos?. The sovereigns. Most of them are totally worthless. I'd expect that since my bonus is attacking sovereigns, I would have to get some of them in order to keep up expansion.
But Essos is big and empty and full of resources, unlike the sovereign lands. Perhaps make a few of the resources on Essos exclusively sovereign controlled.
Maybe the horses?. The continent is very well done. I was able to navigate using maps of Essos and everything was where I thought it was. The only thing that seemed amiss was that the eastern coast of Essos is desert when I expected forest.
The starting plot for Vaes Dothrak is epic. Once you get a granary built, you've got a lot of plots that will grow your city fast.
Gold is hard to come by (unless you shake down sovereigns. Nice!) until you start adding some river cities. Vaes Dothrak is also not where I expected it to be. The night is dark and full of terrors wildlings. There are a lot, and stamping them out is kind of tedious.
At one point one of my warriors was completely surrounded by brutes. That unit did not survive. I'm not really sure what can be done about this. I can only imagine the barbarians would be worse if Vaes Dothrak was on the east coast.
The AI doesn't seem to care that much about religion. It probably should since it is the only way to get culture really. Those policies don't arrive that often without a Mother of the Mountain in every city. I don't know how that one poster on Steam lost a cultural victory except that he must have played the game for a thousand turns or more. Or maybe it was all that culture earned from killing wildlings with the Honor tree. Because the starting plot is very high in production, Vaes Dothrak eventually became idle. Eventually I had (by far) the largest military.
I'm pretty sure you are already working (or planning to work) on wonders, which would solve this unexpected production surplus I have. It's lonely and boring. I only have Daenerys and a bunch of sovereigns who love me because I am constantly trouncing wildlings for them. But I won't be seeing the rest of the houses until I tech way up and sail across the narrow sea.
I guess it's my playstyle, but I prefer to see all the backstabbing and intrigue and not hear about what an unknown civ does. The Starks start on top of 4 horses and I get none unless I build cities specifically to capture horse resources? Really?I've heard plenty of people are playing the Greyjoys, so I might try a Lannister game and see how they fare. Fantastic work. I enjoy this mod immensely and play it often. I am especially pleased that there have been regular updates, including new factions.Some thoughts and suggestions. Happy to discuss these in greater detail and play them out to their logical conclusions.Probably the most straightforward modification would be to introduce Wonders. We already know of several particular to this setting: Valyrian roads, The Wall, the Titan of Braavos, and the triple walls of Qarth. Others might include the Hightower of Oldtown and Harrenhal. Looks great!!I've always been a huge fan of mods like this and I'm glad to see one for ASOIAF.Coming from my favorite mod communities: RFC, RFC Europe, and RFC Asia, here are some suggestions of how to add depth to the mod.ASOIAF everything: units (can be pretty similar but maybe more themed to the story), buildings (same thing), techs that pertain to the story (maestery, valyrian steel as a full tech, dragons for danerys?, obsidian, etc.
Etc.)I'm thinking for the freys they could be soverign.As for balancing the known world, you could chop esteros into just the western half. This would make Drogo more in the action and make it less of a run-away continent for these two teams (even if its larger, the desert and soverigns would make it balanced).I also agree. The most crowded areas of the south should be jam packed with resources and the north could be a little more barren.
I'm picturing not so much tundra but just lots of woods without too many resources.And I second the opinion that we need wonders. They could just be vanilla Civ 5 wonders but renamed and with different pictures for now.So excited!
Here's a few things I've learned while playing in the last couple days that should help others new to the mod.First, it's okay to turn down the difficulty. I for one get rid of the encumbrance penalty because that only affects me and my companions. All the other NPC's in the game already have their items and armors set. They aren't going to change no matter what I pick. Survivability and fun are what I'm after.Who am I-I don't know a lot about the character creation but I do know that if you choose things like Poacher it will have a negative affect on your relations with lords. You may also notice that choosing to be a tall person gives you some strength and being short gives you agility. It stands to reason that being a mummer will give you some points in entertainment, and being a merchant's apprentice will probably give you some money and blacksmith apprentice some better equipment.Decisions, decisions.
The first scene and what to choose. Fight like heck but you'll still lose. Guard dog lift station controller. But you can gain a level before you lose and you wont' lose any money or stuff like that. Do you help the Starks?
If you choose 'yes' then it will give you -10 relations with Westeros, and you'll have some Lannisters chasing after you. However, if you choose 'no' then you get not relation penalty, but Robb Stark does not start the quest line with the Nights Watch. I'd rather have the quest line personally. I can pay off the Lannisters later.Show me the money-Head to Saltpans or Lord Harroways Town. They sell salt dirt cheap. Buy what you can and sell in Maidenpool or Duskendale, Gulltown, KL, etc.
Then go back to Saltpans and buy some more. Remember not to carry so much you can't move quickly. There are bandits around and they except cash or blood only. I've not learned a lot about trade but the North has cheap furs that sell everywhere for good money. The Reach sells cheap food for a modest profit and Pentos sells Velvet. I bought it for about 200 stags but couldn't sell it anywhere for more than 369. That's strange because the Velvet enterprise says it will sell over 2000 stags worth of velvet each week.
Maybe they are making more than 2 now?.A horse, a horse! My kingdom for a horse. Here's a list of the two best horses that I've found so far. The two best horses are the Plated Warhorse that can be found more often in the Reach or Stormlands. And next is the Sand Steed.
This is the fastest horse in the game. They come in different colors and speeds.
One of them has a tan coat and has a speed of 51! (hint: get the one with speed of 51).Say hello to my little friend. The best weapons in the game are as follows: The Dog Cudgel. Found on slavers in Essos. Speed of 125 (ish) and damage of 35 blunt.
Arguably the best one-handed weapon in the game. Next is the Longbladed Spear found in Volantine region. Length 155, speed pf 97. Damage is 43c swing and 39p thrust.
A wicked weapon and second only to the Night Kings Ice Spear. I don't even know if that Ice Spear drops! For bow I would go with a shortbow. Good damage, can use on horse, easy availability all over the Seven Kingdoms, and you can improve it at a weaponsmith. Honorable mention to the 'Sword' found in Braavos. About 140 speed, 101 length, does 25c swing and 35p thrust. I haven't mastered this weapon yet but it has a lot of promise-especially for single combat.
Dog Cudgel is still probably better.Let them fight! Sooner or later you've got to defend what you've got or maybe just kill something. It's best to start with enemies that can't hurt if they can't catch you. I know, for instance, that the Black Ears which patrol around Saltpans and the Riverlands have no ranged weapons and use a lot of two handed axes. This is perfect for a new player if you find them. Bring lots of arrows. But my favorite units to kill for fun and prizes are the White Walkers.
You don't need no stinking Valyrian sword. Just buy 3 quivers of Obsidian Arrows in Thenn and kite those bastards until you run out of ammo. If that happens then go as far away from them as you can and retreat and fight another battle. At the end you get all the loot and experience.
All of them are easy to kill with obsidian arrows. You'll be stinking rich!.“If it bleeds, we can kill it”-Tactics. The hard part when starting is learning what enemies are capable of and sadly we have to find out the hard way. Let me start by saying that with higher Tactics skill you can retreat and leave a battle successfully and fight another day. However, if you have working testicles like me then you'll want to stick it out for better or worse.
So, here a couple tips. When fighting mixed troops kite the melee users away from the ranged troops and then attack them when you are clear. Or, double back and run down the archers when they are without melee support. You can also try riding in circles around javelin throwers until they run out of spears. Then close in and kill them all. Another method, if you are a skills horse archer, is to pick off the archers at a distance. With a fast horse they can't track you fast enough to hit you, but you can hit them.
If you run out of arrows then draw them away from the corpses and double back and pick some up. I hope this is the appropriate place to ask this.My question is. When do you make that jump into a landed noble? Where are the best places to start? What are the best ways to earn Right To Rule (is RTR included in this mod, I don't see it)? What are the best ways to get nobles to join you after you've started to earn Right To Rule and have taken your first holding?I know to avoid getting too deep into the War of the Five Kings, but who do I start taking holdings from first?
I know The Vale is a superb place to control, but I'm pretty sure I'm nowhere near being ready to attack them.I'm level 11. My army is about 100 strong.

My Renown is 235, Controversy of 0.Is it better to send out companions to spread your word? If so, how long will they be gone? I've been doing mercenary work for various factions, should I join a faction? I'm pretty sure I shouldn't join a belligerent in the WOTFK, so should I join someone in Essos or one of the two neutrals in Westeros? So many questions.Basically.

Are you speaking of the 3 men who come after you?Yes.Whether you start with a horse or not you can easily defeat those troops.First, wait for them to come to you. Often they will spread out which means you can take them one at a time.Next, let your two soldiers attack first and you come in and move around behind the enemy and stab them in the back. You get critical hits this way and this alone can turn the tide.If you have a horse then moving around behind the enemy is even easier.Once you defeat those Lannister troops you will get another -10 relations.I usually disband those soldiers because I won't need them for a very long time and I'll have to pay wages before I get to Trident where I'll buy the first Salt. Something I noticed while north of the wall.

Despite their shit gear, a swarm of wildings can fuck up most archers so long as you don't have them charge head-on. Instead have them come at them from the side. Also enemy wilding Calvary get rekt if you have a shield. Hold position in ranks, Just let them charge, bonk on your and your men's shields, and have at the horses. The riders only ever seem to have wooden javelins or bone axes, thus making them near useless without the extra momentum of their steeds. Either in game concepts or when you click on the build settlement tab it tells you a little about the settlement.Apparently, enemies cannot attack it. As for getting the most out of the settlement I'm afraid you may be 'underwhelmed' by what you get out of it.You can garrison troops in there.
Up to 250 after a second upgrade.You can hire a bard, maester, master at arms, smith, armourer, chef, bartender, and whore.Sadly, you don't derive any income from doing any of those things and I've never been able to find the master at arms.The settlement costs a lot of money, provides no revenue, and I can't even find an inventory to store things (which is one of the listed features).I think the whole thing is a money pit for players to sink a bunch of cash into with little result.You're better off finding the lost castle and moving in there. At least you can get an income and have an inventory even if it is way the heck out of the way. Hey, thanks for the reply, this is the info I needed.
I wish I was savvy enough to put this in the WIKI as I am sure many others would be helped by it.I did manage to build one and had it near enough to the water so I could dock ships at it too which was cool. Initially I wanted it for item storage but could not find it anywhere inside either nor the master at arms. Storing troops is useful too albeit the gold and timber cost are high so in the end it is pretty much an RP tool/money-pit. I sure hope someone is able to increase the amount of timber in the world in future patches as that part gets really tedious.I will have to find that lost castle you are talking about, thanks for the heads up on that.
