This patch for Dawn of War upgrades the game from version 1.20 to 1.30. In addition to the number of bug fixes and gameplay balances, this patch features a new Observer mode, a Friends List.
Next time you open SoulStorm look in the upper left hand corner. If it says that the version is 1.2 then you're fine. Like Carurcyn said, Steam automatically makes it the latest version. To check if you have Steam set to do this, right click on SS in your games library and hit properties. Click on the updates tab and make sure in the drop down box you have selected 'Always keep this game up to date'. That should fix your problem, if not try verifying the files of the game, and if all else fails try re-installing. Hope I helped!
This is certainly a gigantic patch. Discuss. For me, I've got a few issues re: nerfing the Imperial Guard. Specifically, the Vendicare assassin. The unit sucked enough as it was; a huge price tag for a 3rd tier glorified artillery spotter. They made it so the assassination scope ability doesn't increase the assassin's sight radius (so the assassin will presumably need a spotter now, since they didn't say anything about it not increasing the rifle range), but more importantly they apparently completely nerfed the damage the assassin does to commanders. That sucks. The assassin wasn't too good at killing commanders to begin with, because more often than not he'll decide to plink away at infantry or some building instead of the commander you want him to shoot.
So sure, let's make him less able to do his job, because that's such a brilliant idea.Oh, and while we're at it, assassination infiltration is a completely separate upgrade now. Brilliant, Holmes; buying infiltration for one single, solitary guy. That's totally worth it. It isn't.But I'm rather happy with some of the Space Marine changes. They brought back Predator Destructors, and Chaplains can attach to squads now.
For the Honor of the Chapter! Although on the downside, Assault Marines are now officially no longer worth it, since they take 3 unit cap instead of 2, and had no boost that would let them get beaten up in melee by Guardsmen any less than they do already to justify the increase.
Also, Whirlwinds were moved to Tier 4 and nerfed with decreased damage and removal of the ability to fire on the move. I hate Dawn of War patches. They always ruin things. It didn't use to be about balance. It used to be about customisability and it used to be fun. They still haven't made orks actually playable I guess. Space Marines usually have more unites due to ork's screwy unit cap. The increased manpower ability in the campaign is so useless for them.I don't have the patch and I won the 3:1 kill ratio.
It's probably just luck. Unless you were doing the mission to get Fury and visably saw that you had got a 3:1 kill ratio there wasn't a problem. I don't have the patch and I won the 3:1 kill ratio.
It's probably just luck. Unless you were doing the mission to get Fury and visably saw that you had got a 3:1 kill ratio there wasn't a problem.Let me put it this way.For the Tau, Ork, and Necron, I won the 3-1 ratio wargear first battle. Then, suddenly, I stopped earning the wargear. I started up a dozen or so campaigns with various races, played up to grabbing Fury (for the visible declaration of kills), and none of them got it.
Thats why I stopped playing the campaign. Let me put it this way.For the Tau, Ork, and Necron, I won the 3-1 ratio wargear first battle. Then, suddenly, I stopped earning the wargear.
Night at the inventory strip download. I started up a dozen or so campaigns with various races, played up to grabbing Fury (for the visible declaration of kills), and none of them got it. Thats why I stopped playing the campaign.Honestly? That speaks to me of you not knowing what you're doing, because I got the 3 to 1 kill ratio easily, even with Guard. Hell, with Guard I got it while fighting Chaos. And even got two wargear pieces awarded on the same mission, because I got over 10,000 kills in one go.
(The Rhean Jungle is a rat bastard when Chaos is holed up in there with twenty Desecrated Strongholds and spammed missile turrets. I lost some ten or twelve Baneblades breaking into there; the mission lasted eleven hours.). The assassin wasn't too good at killing commanders to begin with, because more often than not he'll decide to plink away at infantry or some building instead of the commander you want him to shoot. So sure, let's make him less able to do his job, because that's such a brilliant idea. For a start why would an Assassin start shooting a building instead of the squad you told him too?2. So he will take away a few infantry that the commanders sitting with first, he will still get the commander before any other sniper like rangers or scouts would. Goody, more IG nerfs.
Curse of the Machine Spirit is now much less useful, I will likely stop using Psykers again. Plasma weapons are weaker, although you can take more of them. Still, that takes more resources. Basilisks, one of the most worthwhile IG units, get more nerfs. The hellhound's Let It Burn abilitygets nerfed, now much less useful, though I will admit it was a little powerful.
Ogryn are no longer as effective against vehicles. And of course assassins are no longer assassins, they are snipers, and bad ones at that. That speaks to me of you not knowing what you're doing, because I got the 3 to 1 kill ratio easily, even with Guard.I was winning with 0 losses, and was still failing to get the wargear. Don't tell me I don't know what I'm doing. It was awarded just fine during my initial 3 runs through the campaign, then stopped happening. On fury, victory by killcount, the only units I lost was a squad that I deleted just incase there was some division by 0 stuff going on preventing the game from realizing I earned the wargear, still no wargear.@v No, it didn't.
Once I realized that the game wasn't giving me my wargear, that was the first thing I tried. I was winning with 0 losses, and was still failing to get the wargear. I had no trouble getting 3:1 ratio wargear every time I played. If you look at the patch objectively, you can see that it is very balanced now.Sure, there are a lot of IG nerfs. But they nerfed the overpowered things:Basilisk could kill armies in seconds if guarded by an army. (Hyperbole)Assassin could kill the Tau Commander in one shot, not to mention other commanders in a few.Not to mention others.I think the number of nerfs is distracting you from the buffs. They don't seem very good, but three squads of guardsmen in a bunker was already powerful before 1.2 - with the 25% damage increase they can take out armies if supported.
Dawn Of War Soulstorm Races
If you're a good IG player, you should be building Infantry Commands all over the place, and a techpriest works just as well as an entire squad in a bunker, and three of them are not only useful but cheap too.Heavy weapons were already powerful pre-1.2, and now with the targeting bug fixed they become even better. (Using the anti-inf for infantry and AV for vehicles instead of just hoping they would target the right one) Not a buff, but still adds a strength.5 grenade launchers on a guardsmen squad is AWESOME if you have weapon specialization and maybe a priest attached. I saw a replay where an IG player took out about 300 flayed ones with 3-4 guardsmen squads. (He got a 4th one eventually) He then went on to own the necron base with his guardsmen and a couple hellhounds.
I can find it for you if you want.Guys, I'm not even an IG player. This stuff is easy to spot if you watch a few replays (Go to the relic forums and find some).Plus, the IG only seemed weaker vs.
Necrons and Tau, and now that they've been nerfed, they didn't need all that much buffing.
